Prince William, unhappy about his absence from the Women’s World Cup final, tried to ease the tension by broadcasting an encouraging video in the company of his daughter this Saturday, August 19.
It is not yet known whether England or Spain will win the 2023 Women’s World Cup. One thing is certain, there will be an absence in the stands at Australia Stadium in Sydney this Sunday, August 20th. It belongs to the royal family, more specifically to the Crown Prince William of England. Faced with heavy criticism on social media, the latter gave a speech this Saturday evening in which he apologized to the nation and sent his best encouragement to the English people, accompanied by his daughter, 8-year-old Princess Charlotte.

“Good luck lionesses”
“Lionesses, I want to wish you the best of luck for tomorrow,” Prince William says in this video, where he stands next to his daughter Charlotte with a soccer ball in her arms. “We’re sorry we can’t be there in person, but we’re very proud of what you’ve accomplished and the millions of people you’ve inspired here and around the world,” he continues, before leaving the conclusion to his juniors. “Good luck lionesses,” calls out Princess Charlotte.
The Prince of Wales not only has the status of representing the nation, but is also the president of the Football Association (FA), the governing body of English football. Which angers many fellow citizens. Not to mention the fact that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will not be present at the final in Australia either, who has entrusted this matter to Foreign Minister James Clearley and Culture Minister Lucy Fraser. Let’s remind that this is the first time when the English women’s football team, which became the European champion in 2022, participates in the finals of the World Cup. The future will tell us if these absences affected player morale and the final score.
