After all, how old is Luffy?

With the revelation of the Sabaody arc, some fans of “One Piece” began to speculate what Luffy’s real age would be, where many of them came to the conclusion that he would actually be 18 years old.

That’s because, in the artbook of the movie “Strong World” (2009), the creator of the manga, Eiichiro Odasaid that that would be the last adventure of the 17-year-old boy, implying that the birthday of the leader of the Straw Hats would come soon after.

Even so, the information ended up not being considered by some members of the fanbase, since ‘Strong World’ is not part of the canon of the story and the detail was never made official by the Mangaká.

After all, how old is Luffy really?

As verified by the Legion of Heroes portal, oda confirmed that there is a time jump of two years after the end of the War of the Best, and at this point in his journey, the protagonist is 19 years old. With this, it becomes clear that in the opening events, Luffy was still 17 years old.

So the revelation in the Strong World artbook was correct?

Technically, yes! If the plot were included in the set of official works of “one piece“, the events would be located shortly after the Thriller Bark arc, since Brook is already part of the team, as revealed by the Legion of Heroes portal

Furthermore, confirmation carries the possibility that the revelation of oda could have a second — and more accurate — interpretation, since the speech has a direct connection with the films that bear the title of the treasure hidden by Gol D. Roger, the King of the Pirates, before he died.

This happens because, after the 2009 feature film, the next production released was “One Piece Z” (2012), which presents the adventures of the crew members after two years of the events seen in “Strong World”, where it is confirmed that Luffy is 19 years old.
