According to the CEO, consumption of South Korean content on Netflix has increased by six times in the last four years
In recent years, the number of South Korean productions that have been successful on Netflix has been increasing more and more – and the information was confirmed by the co-CEO of the platform, Ted Sarandos, at a recent event held in South Korea. The information is from The Hollywood Reporter.
Second Sarandos“A staggering 60% of our subscribers have already watched a Korean title. Consumption of South Korean content has increased sixfold in the past four years.”
Ted he also stated that the romance genre is the most watched by users, totaling 90% of views on the accounts of people outside of South Korea.
“Last year, the movie ‘Carter’ and the series ‘All of Us Are Dead’ and ‘The Glory’ entered the top 10 on Netflix in 90 different countries. Of course, nothing can beat ‘Round 6’ – the biggest series history, by any metric we can measure,” revealed Ted Sarandos.
And the number may still continue to grow. This year, in April, the co-CEO announced that Netflix intends to increase investment in South Korean films and series on the platform, with a budget of 2.5 billion dollars, an amount twice as high as invested in 2016, when the movies and series arrived on the service, as told by the Deadline portal.
