Blue Beetle hasn’t even premiered in theaters, but its future is already guaranteed! That’s because, in an interview with Total Film (Via Omelete), director Angel Manuel Soto revealed that the hero is part of the DCEUDC’s extended universe on the big screen.
We’re part of that universe, that world, and the plans they’ve been creating for the future of the DCU. We are not connected to the movies of the past. Our story takes place in a world where superheroes exist, it’s true, but none of the events or alliances from the previous films dictate the path for us,” he explained.
Furthermore, Soto revealed the perspective for the hero’s new films, saying that from the beginning, the idea is to transform the plot into a trilogy:
The mentality has always been to make at least two more features. It’s the traditional three-act structure. Our first film is like the first act of his saga.”
The official synopsis of the film released by the studio reads: “Newly formed Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) returns home full of aspirations for the future, only to discover that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches for his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when he unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab.
When the Scarab chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, the young man is given incredible armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Blue Beetle Super Hero.”
For the plot to come to life, Xolo Maridueña was cast in the lead role, while the Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine plays Jenny, a character who will be the main love interest of the hero. In addition to them, the cast also includes the following actors: Susan Sarandon, Damian Alcazar, George Lopez, Elpidia Carrillo It is Adriana Barraza.
“Besouro Azul” opens on August 18, under the direction of Angel Manuel Sotowhile the script is signed by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.
