Brazil may win law named after Taylor Swift

After confusion in the sale for the shows of Taylor Swift in Brazil, deputies suggest laws to prevent the illegal sale of tickets

The sale of tickets for “The Eras Tour”, the Taylor Swift which will be on Brazilian soil in November, may generate a new law. That’s because, from the first day that the singer’s fans were able to buy a ticket to the shows, there were complaints about possible exchange actions, both in the face-to-face queue and in the virtual one.

It is worth remembering that, when sales started, many people were in the face-to-face and virtual queue and even those who were in the top positions were unable to secure tickets. The suspicion is that scalpers, individuals who buy several tickets to resell at prices higher than the original, have bought many tickets, which took away the opportunity for the singer’s fans to purchase them.

Last Monday, the 19th, a new batch of tickets began to be sold, and there was an operation supervising this sale. In all, 32 suspects were arrested for buying numerous tickets to resell at very high prices.

After these events, two federia deputies (Simone Marquetto (MDB-SP) and Pedro Aihara (Patriotas-MG)), presented draft laws (PL) that address the illegal sale of tickets in the country, according to information gathered by the Metrópoles news portal. And these bills were dubbed laws Taylor Swift.

The first project suggests that the practice of selling tickets at a price higher than that stipulated by the event organizers becomes a “crime against the popular economy”. The person who was caught carrying out this activity would face 1 to 4 years in prison, in addition to a fine of one hundred times the advertised price of the tickets. This PL was presented by the deputy Simone Marquetto (MDB-SP).

Already the deputy Pedro Aihara (Patriotas-MG) presented the second project. In addition to the sale of tickets at prices higher than the original being a crime, the project also suggests typifying the crime of “digital exchange”. In that case, both situations would carry fines of the same amount, but the penalties would be different. The currency exchange that is already known, would have a detention of 6 months to 2 years, while the digital would be 1 to 3 years.
