What is the comic book story that inspired the movie?

“The Flash” starring Ezra Miller arrived this Thursday, 15, in theaters. The film also features Sasha Calle in the role of Supergirl, while Michael Keaton It is ben affleck return to play Batman. The production will show the protagonist dealing with the consequences of his choices, after returning to the past to avoid his mother’s death, which ends up compromising the entire chronology of that universe. The plot of the hero’s solo film is based on the premise of the Flashpoint comic (in Portuguese, Point of Ignition), which was published in 2011 and is seen as the most important among all Flash stories. The plot not only marked the journey of Barry Allen, but also the entire DC universe.

The Ponto de Ignição saga was published in 5 editions and had a script by Geoff Johns and art of Andy Kubert. The story begins with Barry waking up and getting ready for another day at work, but there’s something different. The hero is faced with his mother alive and who has apparently been present throughout his life.

Confused, Barry asks her about the Justice League and discovers that in this reality the superhero group does not exist, including the Flash. But Earth is not unprotected as there are some protectors like Batman.

The protagonist decides to go after the Batman, who in this universe is much more angry, vindictive and who doesn’t think twice if he has to go beyond the limits. As Barry is without his powers, he ends up being beaten by Batman and is shocked to discover that this protector of Gotham is not Bruce Wayne, but Thomas Wayne. In this reality, Bruce’s father survived the assault, while the boy was the victim.

Allen manages to convince Thomas that he came from an alternate timeline and reveals to Batman that in his universe Bruce is alive. The protagonist then reveals that he suspects that Eobard Thawne, the Reverse Flash, is behind this change in time and reality. From there, Thomas decides to help Barry regain his powers.

Upon returning to being the Flash, the speedster along with Batman and Cyborg from that universe go in search of the Kryptonian Kal-El, Superman. The trio discovers that in this timeline, the government has kept the hero under wraps since his ship landed on Earth. The three save a weak and powerless Superman, since he has spent most of his life away from sunlight, which is the main source of his powers. After recovering, Superman leaves Barry and Wayne to their own devices with their escape.

While all this was going on with The Flash, there was a war going on between Aquaman and Wonder Woman. The conflict between the Atlanteans and the Amazons was already devastating much of Europe and there were threats to reach the USA. From there, the plot begins to mix the urgency of this fight and the fact that Barry starts to forget his original memories and is replacing them with new ones, which come from the reality he finds himself in.

Flash, Batman and Cyborg go to Billy Batson and the Shazam family for help. Thomas Wayne believes that Batson’s powers can slow down Barry’s memory changes. After this stop, the trio decides to interfere in the battle between Aquaman and Wonder Woman, since they believe that the Reverse Flash is also behind this conflict.

In addition to the superheroes that were with Barry from the beginning, the protagonist arrives on the battlefield with Batson and the Shazam family. And in the midst of the chaos of combat, the Reverse Flash appears and reveals who caused the break in the timeline.

The villain of the saga reveals that it was Barry Allen himself who caused all the temporal change. That’s because he decided to go back in time to prevent the Reverse Flash from killing his mother. From this interference, there was a fragmentation in the chronology, which ended up changing the destiny of all the heroes of the universe, including the Flash himself.

After this revelation, Batman ends up killing the Reverse Flash and advises Barry to fix the chronology, even if the universe they are in ends. Before saying goodbye, Thomas leaves a letter to his son, Bruce, with the Flash, so that he can give it to the Batman of the other reality.

About to go back in time to fix things, Barry says goodbye to his mother, whom he will have to let die. The Flash is on a mission to stop himself from changing timelines. He manages to clean up the mess he had made and the three main timelines are established again: the DC universe, the Vertigo universe and the WildStorm universe.

With everything resolved, Flash goes to meet Bruce Wayne, who is the Batman of that universe. He hands Batman his father’s letter, and Gotham’s protector is thrilled and grateful for the speedster’s gift.

It’s important to point out that after Flashpoint was published, all comics in the DC universe underwent a reboot. All titles of heroes were reset, that is, they started from number 1 again. This new arc became known as “The New 52”.
