5 defining moments from the iconic boygroup’s career

This Tuesday, the 13th, the BTS celebrates 10 years of debut. The iconic boygroup made their long-awaited debut in 2013 with the album “2 Cool 4 Skool”, which arrived accompanied by the powerful title track “No More Dream”.

Since then, the group has gained a huge legion of fans, known as ARMYs, in addition to achieving historic feats, becoming one of the most influential artists in South Korea. To celebrate BTS’s 10th anniversary, remember five key moments in the iconic group’s career.

1. First achievement at MAMA

The Mnet Asian Music Awards, currently known simply as the MAMA Awards, is one of the top music awards in South Korea. The awards, which take place annually, are responsible for recognizing some of the top artists in the music industry in South Korea.

In the year of their debut, in 2013, BTS received their first MAMA award. At the time, the group took home the category of “Male Rookie of the Year”.


2. Top of the Billboard Hot 100

Throughout their career, BTS has achieved several important milestones for South Korean pop music. In 2017, the formation became the first k-pop group to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100, thanks to the song “DNA”, title track of the album “Love Yourself: Her”.


3. First time at the UN

Since their debut, BTS has been to the UN Headquarters three times. The first took place in 2018, when the group gave a speech in support of the “Generation Unlimited” program, in partnership with UNICEF, with the aim of increasing investments and opportunities for children and young people aged 10 to 24 worldwide.


4. First Grammy Awards

The Grammy is the main award in world music, being extremely dreamed of by virtually all professionals in the international music industry. In 2019, BTS made history by becoming the first K-pop group to present a category at the event. On the occasion, the members presented the award for “Best R&B Album”, won by the singer HER.


5. Special Presidential Envoy on Future Generations and Culture

Over the years, due to their great worldwide success, BTS has also come to be considered important figures for the South Korean government. In 2021, the seven members were appointed as Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Cultures by the President of South Korea, Moon Jae In.

That is, members can now be called upon to represent South Korea in different international events, where each one has a diplomatic passport, which must be used whenever they represent the country.
