What are the new songs from the live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’?

‘The Little Mermaid’ soundtrack received updates and new songs; find out which ones!

The live-action ‘The Little Mermaid’ premiered in theaters last Thursday, the 25th, bringing some subtle changes to the story of the young princess Ariel. Among the changes, it is possible to note the inclusion of three new original songs in the soundtrack signed by Lin-Manuel MirandaIt is Alan Menkenco-composer of the original animation.

What are they?

Composing the list of new tracks is “Wild Uncharted Waters” (No Fundo Dessas Águas, in the Brazilian version), the musical solo of Prince Eric, which receives the voice of his interpreter: Jonah Hauer-King. Listen to the original version below!

In addition to her, the plot produced by Disney also features “For the First Time” (Everything So New), by Ariel (Halle Bailey) and “The Scuttlebutt” (Zum Zum Zum), a duet between Sabidão (Awkwafina) and Sebastião (Daveed Diggs). Check out the two songs below!

Changes to the soundtrack

In addition to new songs, the soundtrack of the 1989 animation, created by Alan Menken It is Howard Ashman (May 17, 1950 – March 14, 1991), still underwent some modifications in great tracks such as “Poor Unfortunate Souls” (Unhappy Hearts) which had the passage in which it insinuates that, for a girl to conquer a man, she needs being discreet and quiet, removed, giving way to a brief reflection on the relationship between Ariel and King Trion, who is overprotective of the princess, as highlighted by the Legion of Heroes portal.

Kiss the Girl (Beije a Moça) is voiced not only by Sebastião, but also by Sabidão. The song even has a lyric change to add the idea that the action must be performed with consent. That’s because, the excerpt: “It’s true, he likes her as he sees it / Maybe she likes you / Don’t even ask her” had the final sentence changed to “If you doubt it, ask”. In addition, the verses: “Well, she won’t talk, she will only demonstrate / If you kiss her” gave way to: “This is the sign, it’s the ideal night / Now it’s just a matter of kissing”.

Finally, “Les Poissons” was removed. Among the possible reasons are the reinforcement of the stereotype of the French, and the scenes that include fish being cut by the chef, which if adapted for the flesh and blood version, would become somewhat brutal.
