After the release of ‘Midnight Sun’, the author of ‘Twilight’ revealed why the saga should not gain new stories anytime soon
In 2005, the author Stephenie Meyer released the first book in the “Twilight” saga, a franchise that would become one of the biggest hits of the 2000s both in bookstores and in theaters.
The work portrays the love triangle between Bella Swan, a human, Jacob Black, a werewolf, and Edward Cullen, a vampire, addressing all the difficulties of a relationship where people are part of completely different worlds.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, the saga grossed billions of dollars at the box office in theaters, making an impact that, to date, has yet to be surpassed by any other vampire series. According to information from the e-Pipoca portal, adding the ticket sales of all the films in the franchise, “Twilight” would have raised more than 3.3 billion dollars internationally.
In 2020, 12 years after the release of the last book “Amanhecer”, Meyer returned to the universe of Bella, Edward and Jacob with the launch of “Sol da Meia-Noite”, a work that retells the facts presented in “Twilight” from the perspective of the vampire.
With the arrival of the new issue, many fans were anxious about the possibility of receiving new stories from the beloved franchise, but Stephenie already assured that this should not happen so soon, but assured that the saga has at least two more novels planned.
As echoed by the ScreenRant portal, the author said: “I’m not ready to do this right now. I want to do something totally new. For me, a lot of the joy of writing comes from creating, and I really want to make a new world, new rules and new mythology.”
ScreenRant also reveals that, even with the success of “Sol da Meia-Noite”, Meyer wouldn’t have had as much fun returning to this classic universe, saying it was extremely difficult to write the book from Edward’s perspective, comparing the experience to being behind “prison bars”.
