A is on the postercide, presented out of competition at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. A thriller that is both apocalyptic and intimate, its darkness a warning.
This is a movie that will never make you look at a cloudy sky the same way again. In Sourby Just Philippot (The cloudFeatured at the Midnight Screening at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, Guillaume Canet and Letizia Doche star as a couple in crisis who reunite around their daughter when deadly acid rain hits northern France. The breathtaking film is an apocalyptic thriller, where the fate of the heroes fighting for their survival serves as a warning for the (possible) days to come, like a series like: black-mirror. The two actors sat down with us on The Medium to talk about disaster movies, the end of the world, the end of filming.

intimate disaster
Laetitia Dosch: Can you describe the film in a few words?
Guillaume Canet. This is a very intimate story in a disaster movie. it’s about a separated couple who, along with their daughter, try to escape acid rain, a result of air pollution that is ravaging everything, including the skin. There is a real danger of death, therefore, a kind of emigration, everyone is trying to escape. This couple, separated for several years, absolutely does not want to be in the car at the moment. The girl, who has left her father for some time, now needs him. And the father has only one wish, that is to rebuild his life in Belgium. Nobody wants to be there.
GC- What was your reaction to reading the script?Sour ? LD-LD-I was tempted by the fact that it scared me when I read it, I felt pain and thought we would have a good laugh doing something that scared me. And then it was about environmental protection.
Apocalypse now!
LD What is your favorite apocalypse movie?
GC-THE: son of man by Alfonso Cuaron. It’s a movie that I love, that I think is so smart, so well directed. By the way, it’s still sometimes 10 minutes of continuous footage, with thousands of extras and very few special effects at that point, it’s incredible. I love it too Road With Viggo Mortensen.
LD: In the event of an impending apocalypse, how long do you estimate you will survive?
GC-It actually depends on the apocalypse. It is a very interesting question. Am I as heroic, generous, altruistic as I would like to be, or like this character? Snow therapy, I would show selfishness, the will to get out of it and above all to save my life. My innermost belief tells me that I would be too good. But I feel that extreme situations and fear can make people ugly.

Climate threat
GC- What do you think about when you look at the sky now?
LD- When the sky is cloudy at the moment, I am happy, because it has been so dry in France this year that it calms me down.
LD: What to apply for? Sour Has it changed your attitude and your habits towards the environment?
GG: I already had an environmental consciousness, which the film only strengthened. Just like my desire to be able to use film and stories to convey messages. And I think the movie is a very good example of that. we can engage with important topics through film and storytelling without lecturing or pointing fingers at things, but simply helping to raise awareness.
G.Kh.- What memory of shooting?Sour will you keep it all your life?
LD- My last day of filming. It so happened that I was filming in the Meuse, a rather dirty harbor river, with some repulsive make-up. They applauded me because it was my last day. I came out of the water very happy, very excited because I was very connected to the film crew. And nobody wanted to kiss me too much (laughs).
