More than the Demogorgon’s home, discover how it survives, what it is and who inhabits the Upside Down
Debuting in 2016 in the Netflix catalogue, “Stranger Things” is set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, a place where Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will and Max could live a normal childhood, until they discover that the universe is still more complex and frightening than they imagined.
The series that will win the first wave of episodes of the fourth season on May 27, has as its true stage the terrors of inverted worlda sinister place inhabited by evil creatures that threaten the future of the real world.
But what is the “Inverted World” anyway?
Often called “Valley of Shadows”, due to the RPG “Dungeons & Dragons”, played by the characters in the first season, the game brings a definition that fits the inverted world very well “It’s right next to you and you don’t even see it. ”.
Thus, the place is a parallel dimension to that experienced by the inhabitants of Hawkins, having the same characteristics of the real world, but with distorted space and time, reasons that can justify the horrifying appearance of this other universe.
Who lives in this dimension?

In the Upside Down, ordinary people may not be very welcome, as among the creatures that inhabit this place are Demogorgons, shadowy predators that prey on humans.
Also, the place is home to the Mind Flayer. Also known as Shadow Monster, this is the worst of the series’ villains and the one that causes the most threat to the characters.
How does the Upside Down work?
The life forms contained in this alternate dimension only exist because they are powered by a collective mind, which is commanded by the Mind Flayer.
Deciding the entire existence of the parallel world, this powerful creature can also dominate the real world, as it can connect to the minds of humans linked to the Upside Down, as it did with Will and Eleven.
visits?

Despite being a great threat to the reality inhabited by humans, the Upside Down has already received visits from several characters in the series who have accidentally crossed portals or rifts opened by Eleven.
Will Byers was one of the figures who ended up staying in this parallel reality for the longest, since the entire first season was aimed at rescuing him from there – a fact that also generated the departure of Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper to the dark place.
In addition to them, Nancy Wheeler and Jonathan Byers ended up in this other dimension while investigating the possibility of the existence of the inverted world, and ended up entering through one of the open rifts.
But beyond the portals, there were characters who were taken to the Mind Flayer’s lair in a different way: after being hunted by one of his creatures. Barbara Holland and scientist Shepard were the victims who ended up being captured by the demogorgons and no longer part of the real world.
Still, Eleven, the person responsible for opening this connection between the two realities, is also part of the list of characters who have already been in the Upside Down.
