But after all, who is Adam Warlock?
Adam Warlock is a character created by Stan Lee It is Jack Kirby in 1967. He first appeared in the Fantastic Four magazine and was just called “He”. Warlock is a synthetic human and possesses super strength, super speed and other superhuman attributes. He was created by the Enclave, who wanted to accelerate the evolution of the species, so that it reached its peak more quickly.
Upon sensing the terrible motivations coming from his creators, Warlock fled the organization’s control and went into a world he was unprepared for. He had never lived with other people, which created a lack of social tact.
After two years away from the Enclave, the character appears again in Thor’s magazine. He falls in love with Lady Sif and ends up kidnapping her. The action caused the God of Thunder to face him, leaving him on the brink of death. After these events, he uses a regenerative cocoon. Upon being reborn, he is welcomed by the High Evolutionary and given the name Adam Warlock, along with the Soul Gem.
Warlock ends up living a period in Contra-Terra and helped the New Men to rebel against Man-Beast, who was at the head of a totalitarian regime. The character ended up becoming the first hero of the place after returning power to the people. After his heroic attitude, he decided to wander the stars to try to find other worlds that needed help.
During his journey, he encounters Magus, who is his evil version from the future. This version fought alongside Thanos, Gamora and Pip. This unlikely group defeated the villain and decided to imprison his soul in the Warlock Jewel. Such events were the starting point for the rivalry between Adam and the Mad Titan to emerge. The two would face off directly in the Infinity Gauntlet arc, which sees Thanos trying to conquer Death.
In the Infinity Trilogy, formed by Infinity War and Infinity Crusade, Warlock became central, since the main Marvel heroes had to fight the personifications he had, both good and evil. The versions were separated after he defeated Thanos in Infinity Gauntlet.
After these events, Adam was the protagonist of few Marvel stories, even having an important participation in the formation of the current Guardians of the Galaxy. He has also taken on some famous villains such as Ultron and Kang the Conqueror.
Currently, the character joined Earth’s heroes to defeat Gamora in Infinite Wars, 2018. At the end of this arc, he used his powers to give consciousness to the Infinity Stones, making them able to decide their fates and preventing the other characters from abuse the power of powerful stones.
It is still not known how James Gunn will fit Warlock into the storyline of the latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie. However, it is possible to deduce that the group of heroes will meet the new antagonist while he still believes that the High Evolutionary, who will be played by Chukwudi Iwujiis a benevolent being.
