Camilla Parker-Bowles will wear the iconic dress when she arrives at Westminster Abbey for the coronation of Charles III on May 6. This will be followed by another outfit loaded with tributes.

Britain is just days away from celebrating the coronation of King Charles III. As the entire royal family rushes into final preparations, Buckingham Palace has just unveiled the outfits the two sovereigns will wear at the ceremony on May 6 at Westminster Abbey. As always, Charles and Camilla will be dressed in two separate outfits: a state dress they will wear when they arrive at the monastery, and a ceremonial dress (also called a heritage dress) that they will take off when they leave.

The new monarch will wear the state coat of crimson velvet with a 3.5 meter long train worn by her grandfather, King George VI, at his coronation in 1937. For Queen Camilla, it will also be an original crimson velvet creation. designed, this time, for Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation in 1953.

Lily of the valley and blueberry

As for formal dress, Charles III will once again pay homage to his predecessor by wearing the 1937 the outfit of King George VI. Unlike Camila, who will have a new piece. The creation was made by the prestigious London school of embroidery, the Royal School of Embroidery, of which the latter is the godmother. According to the Daily Mail, the formal dress will be enameled with embroidery representing nature, as well as flowers with a special sound for the royal couple. Among them, the lily of the valley, which was the favorite flower of Queen Elizabeth II; the myrtle, a symbol of hope; Maidenhair Fern, for purity; or blueberries, for love and tenderness.

There will also be bees and beetles (a category of insects such as beetles, beetles). In addition to nature, they represent a cause dear to Charles III’s eyes: the protection of the environment.

Minimalist crowning

As evidenced by the changes made by the latter on the day of the coronation. Indeed, the king has drastically reduced the guest list at Westminster Abbey from 8,000 70 years ago to 2,000 people. Also, his wife Camilla will wear a reworked tiara made for the Queen, Charles’ great-grandmother, Queen Mary, in 1911. She will be the first queen in three centuries to have an existing crown replaced rather than a new one.
