Divorced since 1995, Andrew and Camilla Parker Bowles are still on very good terms. Proof: the retired soldier will attend the coronation of Charles III and his ex-wife on May 6 in London.
Among the 2,000 hand-picked guests for Charles III’s coronation will be a (somewhat) familiar face to Britons: Andrew Parker Bowles, ex-husband of Queen Consort Camilla. As confirmed Times On Sunday, April 23, the retired soldier received his invitation to attend his first wife’s coronation at Westminster Abbey alongside England’s new king.

Unwavering support
Although they divorced in 1995 after 22 years of marriage, Queen Consort Camilla (75) and Andrew Parker Bowles (83) remain very close friends. “[Andrew] arranges many things for him. They always eat together. He is by her side,” the friend testifies in the columns Sunday Times. Proof of Camila’s confidence in herself. Andrew Parker Bowles first made the commitment on behalf of the Queen Consort at the funeral of Elizabeth II’s first cousin John Bowes-Lyon on 18 October.
Camilla’s closest friend, the Marchioness of Lansdowne, says of their relationship: “Everybody loves Andrew. He’s a real charmer, but he’s always terribly misbehaving.” Indeed, the former officer’s reputation precedes him. He is notably described as “a bit of a thug” and “very naughty with women”. He was often believed to be one of author Jilly Cooper’s inspirations for the character Rupert Campbell-Black, a womanizer and central figure in her best-selling books.
However, Camila did not hold a grudge against her ex-husband. In April 2005, she was even among the guests at her wedding to Charles at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, accompanied by his second wife, Rosemary Pittman (died 2010), his long-time lover whom he married in 1996.
“Andrew calls to tell her when she’s made a mistake, and she calls to tell her when she’s misbehaving. In times of adversity, they maintained a very good family ethic. It helps them with their children and grandchildren.” Recall that the former couple had two children: Tom Parker Bowles, 48, a food writer, restaurant critic and godfather of the king, and Laura Lopez, 45, a gallery owner.

Andrew Parker Bowles, nicknamed ‘The Brigadier’ among his friends and royals, who served in the Blues and Royals (a troop of the Household Cavalry), was at court for decades. Before becoming Camila’s husband, he was the first serious friend of the British princess Anna. Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest daughter would have a brief affair with a soldier with whom she was close (Andrew is her daughter Zara Tindall’s godfather). It’s not uncommon to see the duo at the horse races, particularly Royal Ascot.
Andrew Parker Bowles was also a close friend of Charles when he was young. Both played polo on the same team and shared a passion for horse racing, both trained as amateur jockeys. Thus, at the time of Charles and Diana Spencer’s marriage in July 1981, Andrew Parker Bowles, then commanding officer of the Mounted Cavalry Regiment, escorted the newlyweds’ carriage on horseback after the ceremony.
Page at the Coronation of Elizabeth II
On May 6, Andrew Parker Bowles will, in any case, be one of the rare people present at the Abbey who also attended the coronation of Elizabeth II on June 2, 1953. At 13, he served as a page to the Lord. Symonds, then Lord High Chancellor, to whom he bore the crown.
