Listening to actress Ellen Barkin, Johnny Depp was a controlled, jealous and angry man in the 1990s when they met.
“Where are you going?” Barkin said Depp was questioning him. “Did you go there? What did you do last night?”
Barkin added: “I once had a scratch on my back, which made him very angry because he insisted it was about having sex on my part with someone who wasn’t him.”
Barkin recalled his relationship with Depp in a previously taped deposition made by Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, in a courtroom in Virginia on Thursday.
Herd’s lawyers are trying to weaken him in Depp’s libel case against him. Depp said Hardy’s article in the Washington Post in 2018 unfairly described him as a domestic molester and led him to a lucrative career in Hollywood that included the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Depp testified that he did not harm Herd and became a victim of the violence he committed. But Herd’s lawyers said the denial had no credibility because he often drank and used drugs before sunset.
During Barkin’s deposition, he testified that Depp was “always drinking or smoking” or taking other illicit drugs. She said she had been dating Depp for about three to five months and described the relationship as more sexual than romantic.
Barkin was with Depp in the movie “Fear and Abomination in Las Vegas”. While filming, Barkin said Depp threw a bottle of wine in his direction while he was arguing with friends in a hotel room. However, he said he did not know why he threw away the bottle.
Herd’s lawyers argue that Depp’s career free fall was the result of his own misconduct and not Herd’s article. They starred in a testimony describing the rise and fall of an actor from the “best movie star in the world” who fought drugs, money and the ability to appear in time to shoot.
Tracey Jacobs, who has worked as an acting agent for nearly 30 years, said Depp has “caught on coming out to consistently shoot almost every film” over the past few years of collaboration.
“I was very honest with him and said, ‘You have to stop doing this – it hurts you,'” Jacobs said, “and it happened.”
Jacobs said Depp was an exceptional talent, but his behavior became increasingly unprofessional in the years leading up to his release in 2016 and his drug and alcohol use increased, Jacobs said.
“And he came to town, too,” Jacobs said. “I mean, people talk, this is a small community. And people don’t want to use it ”.
Joel Mandel, Depp’s former business manager, testified earlier in the post that the films “Pirates of the Caribbean” have “brought him to a new level of success.”
“It means more employees,” Mandel said. “It means buying more property.… It means a bigger and more expensive life.”
Things changed in 2010 and “over time it became clear that there were alcohol and drug problems,” Mandel said. “And that translated into more wrong behavior, more stressful behavior, more times harder to engage in the kind of conversations I have to do my job.”
At one point, Depp was spending about $ 100,000 a month on doctors and staff to help him stay awake, Mandel said. In another, he spends $ 300,000 a month on full-time staff, he said. And he said there are times when Depp spends thousands of dollars every month on prescription drugs.
“The level of spending has risen very, very, very enormously and it is necessary to maintain an incredibly high level of income,” Mandel said. “And when he fell, the arrest became unreasonable.”
Mandel said he was extremely worried about Depp’s finances in 2015, but Depp greeted that concern with anger. He said the actor fired him in 2016.
Bruce Whitkin, a musician who has been friends with Depp for nearly 40 years, testifies in a previously recorded confrontation that Depp may have been jealous in a romantic relationship.
This jealousy was shown to Herd when he was about to shoot a movie “or do something he couldn’t see to see what was going on,” Whitkin said. “I think it will work on its own.”
Whitkin said he once saw bruises on Herd’s arm while he and Depp were working on a documentary about Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards. And once he saw Depp with a “fat lip”. But Whitkin said he did not see Depp or Herd being physically abused.
Whitkin said he was trying to help Depp use medications and visit a therapist.
“He would say, ‘I’ll be fine.’ I’ll be fine, ”Vitkin said, remembering the conversation. “Okay, you’re not okay.”
Depp’s sister Kristi Dembrowski has always cared about his well -being, both on drug use and in general, Whitkin said.
“I think everyone got in, but… salaried people don’t say much. “They’ll try, but they don’t want to lose their jobs,” Whitkin said. “I am not saying they belong to all categories. But it’s weird with people like that. “Everybody likes it.”
Whitkin said his friendship with Depp began in late 2017 when the actor began to distance himself.
“He wrote me this weird message saying I was going to kick him in the back and swear,” Whitkin said. “And I say, ‘What are you talking about?’ And he didn’t explain it.I have hardly seen him since 2018.
