John Mullen said most people who are not fond of comedies do a very wrong thing with comedians, especially with celebrities like the late Robin Williams.
“People like the theory that comedy comes from a place of pain and sadness,” Moulin said in the clip “The Hall: Honoring the Greats of Stand-up.” “And people like to talk about comedians as if we’re doing what we’re doing because of the inner darkness.”
He said it is often mentioned about Williams, who committed suicide in 2014 at the age of 63.
But Mulaney doesn’t buy it.
“With all due respect, stop this embarrassment,” he said. “Have some respect for a brilliant actor who is smarter than you.”
