Know what should have happened at the end of the first film of the famous Disney franchise entitled ‘The Princess Diaries’
The first film of “The Princess Diaries”, Disney’s classic feature, was released in 2001, and presents the story of Mia (Anne Hathaway), a teenager who discovers that she is a real princess and the main heir to the throne of a small kingdom called Genovia.
The franchise, which has two feature films, was inspired by the author’s books. Meg Cabot which bear the same name, and continues to be successful to this day with fans frequently asking for the release of a third sequel to the production.
Nowadays, it is extremely difficult to find a young person who grew up in the 2000s and does not know the saga of Mia Thermopolis in going from being the strange and outcast girl from high school to becoming a princess and moving in with her grandmother, Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews), for the kingdom of Genovia. However, something that not everyone knows is that the first film was supposed to have an ending that was a little different from the one we know today.
Alternative ending
In the final scene of “The Princess Diaries”, after Mia changes her mind at the last minute and decides to assume the title of princess and move to Genovia with her grandmother to eventually assume the throne of the kingdom, we can see the teenager inside of a plane on the way to his new home, when a huge and luxurious castle appears in the window of the aircraft.
According to information released by the site Stacker, initially, this scene was not planned and the film should have ended during the annual ball of Independence Day of Genovia.
Everything would have changed thanks to the director’s granddaughter Garry Marshall who, after watching the film, would have told his grandfather that he would have liked the production even more if the castle Mia was moving into had appeared in the work. Thus, the filmmaker accepted his granddaughter’s request and included the famous plane scene.
