Legendary British agent James Bond races to save the coronation Charles IIIbased on a new novel to be published just before the ceremony the 6th of Mayannounced its publishers on Friday.
Author and actor Charlie Higson According to Ian Fleming Publications, he has been commissioned to write a book in which Bond must thwart the plans of the eccentric Athelstan of Wessex to sabotage a lavish coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
Higson, 64, has already written five novels in the series.Young Bond’, which follows the teenage adventures of a mythical fictional agent created by Ian Fleming.
This new book, which will go on sale on May 4, two days before the coronation of Carlos III, will be called “On His Majesty’s Secret Service(On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), the masculine version of the title Fleming gave to his tenth novel, published April 1, 1963,On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’, referring to Queen Elizabeth II.
How was the proposal born?
“When Ian Fleming Publications approached me with the idea of writing an adult Bond story just over a month ago, I was thrilled until I realized it should be ready for the coronation in May,” Higson said.
“Writing and delivering in such a short amount of time will be as intense and exciting as any Bond mission,” he added, joking that at least he wouldn’t have to dodge bullets.
Charlie Higson promised the usual cocktail of “sex, violence, cars, an eccentric villain with a nasty henchman and, of course, Bond himself.”
Proceeds from the book will go to the National Literacy Foundation, which supports literacy education for underprivileged children.
“The coronation of King Charles III is a momentous occasion for the country,” said Corinne Turner, director of Ian Fleming Publications.
“We asked ourselves how we could celebrate this” on the 60th anniversary of Fleming’s novel, “and the answer seemed obvious.”
