Former President Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) found a musical way to shore up his “legal defense fund” following his indictment by a Manhattan grand jury in the “Saturday Night Live” opener.
Johnson’s Trump, who opened the sketch with a nod to Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” dropped “April Fools” and said he wouldn’t upset his base after Thursday’s historic indictment.
The former president then performed his song “Justice for All” with the J6 Choir before unveiling his upcoming album, “Now That’s What I Call My Legal Defense Fund,” aka “Trump Bopz.”
The album included “30 classic covers, all awful”, such as the Black Crowes’ “Hard to Handle” and Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic”.
It also had special guests including Don King (played by Kenan Thompson) for a cover of “Islands in the Stream” and Donald Trump Jr. (played by Mikey Day) for a cover of “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2”.
“Wow, dad, that’s really interesting. This could be the last time I see you, Day said.
“From your mouth to God’s ears,” Johnson replied before the two sang the Ice Spice and PinkPantheress song.
