Discover facts about the Weasley brothers that only those who have read the books could know!
This is no longer a Fred and George Weasley prank! This Saturday, April 1st, celebrates the birthday of the Weasley twins, the bright and playful children of Arthur Weasley and Molly Weasley, who emerged as characters in the ‘Harry Potter’ saga, having their birth date on the same day in 1978.
Interpreted by James It is Oliver Phelps in the 8 adapted films that were released over 10 years, Fred and George, respectively, had their names introduced for the first time to the world of pop culture in the literary series of the little wizard with lightning on his forehead created by J.K. Rowling.
For that reason, in celebration of the date, we’ve gathered below 5 curiosities about the Weasley twins found on the pages. Check out!
1. The twins had Lee Jordan as their best friend
In the films ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ and ‘Chamber of Secrets’, audiences got to meet Lee Jordan, the Quidditch commentator. Despite not receiving as much prominence in the cinematic plot and not appearing in the following features, in the books, Jordan appears as Fred and George’s best friend, even getting very upset when the duo leaves Hogwarts during the events of ‘The Order of the Phoenix’ .
2. They were chosen to receive Harry’s Triwizard Awards
After becoming the Hogwarts champion in the Triwizard Tournament, Harry, still very shaken by the tragic death of Cedric Diggory, decides that he will not keep the prize money of 1000 Galleons, and chooses to donate the value to the twins, as explained by Screenrant.
The little wizard insists that the pair accept the prize in secret on the grounds that Ron needs new robes. They eventually accept, carry out the arrangement and even use part of the value for their shop ‘Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes’.
3. Fred and George were already kicked off the Quidditch team
The cruel Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Dolores Umbridge, spared no effort to favor the Slytherin students, causing, during a fight between Harry, Fred, George, Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle, only the Gryffindors suffer the consequences, causing the twins and the one who had the power to defeat Lord Voldemort, to be expelled from the team and have their brooms seized by Argus Filch.
4. One of your pranks caused a tragedy
Generally harmless, the twins’ pranks are funny and clever, but what some may not know is one of them nearly claimed the life of a Slytherin student: Graham Montague.
Fred and George trapped the boy in a Vanishing Cabinet. Graham was able to survive the experience by transporting himself from one place to another without having to physically traverse the space, meaning he Apparated safely despite not having a license. However, the near death caused him to enter a vegetative state.
5. Fred’s death

Fred’s death plays out differently in the books than in the movie. This is because, while in the feature ‘Deathly Hallows: Part 2’, the character dies in an inexplicable way, being shown only his body and the lamentation of his family members in the Great Hall while the Battle of Hogwarts proceeds, in the book he dies in his arms of Brother Percy after an explosion caused by Augustus Rockwood.
