The telethon, organized by Mikhail Poplavsky’s group, became the longest live musical television marathon of the national anthem.
The musical telethon “The song unites us!”, organized by the team of singing rector Mikhail Poplavsky, entered the Guinness World Records in the category “The longest live musical television marathon of the national song”. It also became the most popular event. This was announced by the organizing committee of the telethon.
The marathon ran for 5 days continuously from 5.30 am on March 29 to 12.30 am on April 2, 2012 on two TV channels – First National and Era. So, the holiday of the Ukrainian song lasted 110 hours, 3 minutes and 27 seconds. The marathon was watched in 150 countries.
Legends of the national scene and young performers took to the stage. Among them are Ivan Popovich, Viktor Pavlik, Nina Matvienko, Pavel Zibrov, Alla Kudlay, Anatoly Matviychuk, Vladimir Grishko, Alla Popova, Natalia Buchinskaya, Tonya Matvienko, the Antitila, Gaidamaki, Mandry group, the Piccardy Tertia vocal formation and others yet. Along with Ukrainians, the event was attended by representatives of different nationalities – Armenians, Georgians, Tatars.
2012 people took part in organizing and holding the event, including not only performers, but also the technical support of the project – directors, cameramen, technicians, sound engineers, make-up artists, stylists, costume designer, student, graduate and teacher of Kiev National University of Culture and Arts.
“I am overwhelmed with a sense of great pride for this mega-project, for our creative team, for talented people. Ukrainians from all continents of the world are united for the first time. This is a event glorifying our country, comparable in importance and scale to the Olympic Games or Eurovision. It is significant for Ukraine and our people around the world,” said Mikhail Poplavsky.
He also noted that the Ukrainian song is “the soul of the people, the genetic code of the country, our spiritual wealth.”

Each song contains the history of the state, its traditions, the desire for self-determination, love for the homeland, optimism and faith in a good future. of Ukraine. Poplavsky also added that he is proud of his students. Among them is student Igor Didenchuk, the only musician who has twice represented Ukraine at the international song contest. Together with the Go_A group, he conquered the European audience with authentic melodies, and together with the graduate of the University of Culture Timofey Muzychuk as part of the Kalush Orchestra group (Muzychuk performed the chorus in Stefaniy’s song), they received the main Eurovision 2022 award.
According to Poplavsky, another star graduate, director German Nenov, is now working in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 team, which will be held this spring in Liverpool.
In this regard, People’s Artist of Ukraine Pavlo Zibrov is convinced that for Poplavsky the promotion of Ukrainian projects “is a matter of life, a contribution to the preservation of spiritual heritage.”
