Melissa Joan Hart says she helped kids get to safety after the Nashville shooting

Melissa Joan Hart said she helped kindergartners escape the fatal shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. (Watch the video below.)

In an emotional video Hart posted to Instagram on Tuesday — saying it was “too raw” to post on the day of Monday’s tragedy — the former “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” actor said she and her husband sprang into action on their way to lectures at the children’s school nearby.

“I helped a kindergarten class cross a busy highway,” she said through tears. “They were coming out of the woods, trying to get away from the shooter situation at their school. So I helped all these kids cross the street and get their teachers there.”

“I helped a mother reunite with her children and I… I don’t know what else to say. That’s enough,” said the former sitcom star.

Hart explained that his family moved to Nashville from Connecticut, where he lived near the site of the 2012 Sandy Hook mass shooting.

She said her children now go to a school “right next door” to Covenant and were “luckily” not in class Monday because of the lectures. Hart said she and her husband, Mark Wilkerson, were on their way to meetings when they stopped to help.

“Prayers today, action tomorrow,” he captioned the video. He did not immediately respond to a HuffPost request for more details.

Hart noted Tuesday on Twitter that “her children will go to school with love in their hearts and an appreciation for every breath they take and every face they see. Hug a little harder today!”

Three employees and three children died at the hands of the shooter, who was killed by the police.
