Why are there no humans in Cars?

In the ‘Cars’ universe, Earth is occupied exclusively by vehicles. But where did the humans go? Find it out!

The “Cars” franchise is part of the great successes released by Pixar. The films tell the story of Lightning McQueen, a famous racing car that ends up getting lost and stops in Radiators Springs, a small town located on Route 66. There, he meets other vehicles and becomes great friends with all the inhabitants, passing through several adventures and finding his great love.

However, something present in the films has caught the public’s attention since their first release in 2006: why are there no humans? During the trilogy, we can notice that really the only living beings present in the world are means of transport, which lead their lives in a way very similar to ours, having their own establishments, television programs, forms of entertainment and much more. .

In 2017, Pixar’s creative director Jay Ward revealed in an interview with ScreenCrush the possible answer behind this huge mystery. At the time, he said “If you think about it, we have automatic car technology coming now, it’s getting to the point where you can sit in the car and it drives itself”.

“Imagine in the near future, when cars keep getting smarter and smarter, after a day they’ll just say, ‘Why do we need human beings? They are just slowing us down. It’s just extra weight, let’s get rid of them.’ However, the car takes on the personality of the last person who drove it”, added the director.

During the interview, ward it even revealed why we can’t see inside cars even though they all have windows. “You’ll never see the doors open because the brain and eyes are in there, we don’t want anything to fall over the side,” she said.

However, there is still another hypothesis that says something a little different from the idea of jay. According to the famous Pixar Theory, created by the journalist Jon Negronithe reason why there are no humans in Cars would have a connection with the character Syndrome, from The Incredibles, who created a technology capable of giving autonomy to machines — as we can see at the end of the first film, where the villain’s huge robot ends up coming to life itself and turning against it.

The theory says that, around the years 2100 and 2200, all machines would have already acquired consciousness, having the ability to think, speak and make their own decisions. That same time would coincide with the peak of pollution on Earth. The large investment in different technologies made by huge companies, such as BnL (Buy-n-Large), from Wall-E, would have been the main reason for the planet to become so dirty that it would make it impossible for humans to stay.

Therefore, they decided to move to space, starting to live in giant ships, where inside there would be everything necessary to survive, including countless robots to serve them. The transition to this new life is also shown in Wall-E, telling us that, over the years, our species has become completely dependent on technology. In this way, with human beings in space, the Earth is empty and ends up being occupied by the beings that remained on the planet: the machines.
