“Daily Show” host Al Franken wrapped up his week behind the desk with impressions from four of his former Senate colleagues.
The topic was Tuesday’s contentious House hearings on TikTok, as lawmakers from both sides criticized CEO Shou Zi Chew over the popular app’s security risks and its close ties to the Chinese government.
Franken, a former Democratic senator from Minnesota, filmed Senate hearings on the app and did four impressions of his former House colleagues: Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Chuck Schumer (DN) . .Y.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine).
But the latter took a turn when Franken used his impression to remind Collins of his decisive vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice.
“I’m concerned about the use of artificial intelligence,” Franken said, mimicking Collins’ distinctive voice. “Because I saw a fake video saying I trust Brett Kavanaugh to support Roe v. Wade. Can you change that by saying I don’t trust him? Because that’s what I said!”
Collins said in 2018 that Kavanaugh assured her that he considered the landmark Roe v. Wade that protected abortion rights to be established law. Instead, he helped turn things around last year, sparking bans in GOP-controlled states and even proposals to prosecute women seeking abortions.
