Howard Stern is urging comedian Jon Stewart to run for president and predicted the former “Daily Show” host will win if he does.
“This guy is so damn smart and brilliant and also witty and really measured when he has a debate,” Stern said on his SiriusXM radio show Monday in a clip posted by Mediaite.
“And he really cares,” co-host Robin Quivers added. “The reason you can discuss any problem with him is that he cares about the problem.”
“And he can talk,” Stern replied. “You know he would struggle to be a good president.”
He said Stewart could win because “people like Jon Stewart.”
Quivers noted that Stewart left “The Daily Show” because it was too much work.
“Well, he must flee to his own country,” said Stern. “A lot more work, but the guy would be great and I think he would be.”
The Hill reported that Stern said Stewart would win in a “dunk” if he ran.
Stern added that he didn’t tell Stewart about it, but urged him to come on the show to accept the nomination.
There are a few problems with Stern’s wish.
First, all indications are that President Joe Biden intends to seek re-election; First lady Jill Biden confirmed last month that she was preparing to run.
“How many times does he have to say that to make you believe?” he told reporters.
And second, Stewart has indicated in the past that he has no interest in running for president, tweeting last year in response to speculation:
On the other hand, he also said that he is considering seeking some kind of office because of how terrible the “stupid people” in Congress are.
“It’s like getting into a car and the only driver is drunk and you’re like, ‘Have you ever thought about getting behind the wheel?’ You’re like, ‘Yeah, I did,'” Stewart told Kara Swisher on an episode of The New York Times’ “Sway” podcast last year.
“I don’t know if I’d have the temperament for it,” she added.
Stewart, who currently hosts “The Problem With Jon Stewart” on Apple TV+, has been active on a number of issues, including health care for 9/11 first responders and veterans exposed to the outbreaks of Iraq and Afghanistan.
