Find out what Woody did 40 years before he met Andy in ‘Toy Story’

Find out the answer behind one of the great mysteries of the ‘Toy Story’ franchise

The long-standing friendship between Andy and his toy cowboy Woody is one of the sweetest things about Pixar’s “Toy Story” movies. During the franchise, we follow the boy’s maturity, until the sad moment comes when he has to say goodbye to the doll to enter college, donating it to a new child, with the intention that he continues to have fun.

In the movies, we discover that Woody is a collectible toy from the 1950s, and that Andy has had him since he was very young. As stated by the ScreenRant portal, if we stop to analyze the references present in the productions, it is possible that the first film is set in 1995, when the boy is turning 6 years old. Thus, the boy would have been born in 1989, which is probably the time when he met the toy cowboy.

Analyzing all these dates, it is possible to conclude that Woody lived almost 40 years before he met Andy. But what has he been doing all this time?

old toy

In “Toy Story 2”, when Al attends the garage sale and tries to buy the toy, Andy’s mother claims that he is “an old family toy”. In the same film, the cowboy even comments “A record player! I haven’t seen one of those for years.” With these lines, it is possible to understand that Woody must have been among the Davises since before the boy was born.

It is worth remembering that some theories created by fans claim that Woody may have belonged to Andy’s father, who had the same name, and was passed on to the boy before the patriarch died – and it would be exactly for this reason that the little one would be so attached to the doll .

The same theory also claims that Woody never got to comment to Andy about his first owner just because he didn’t remember. According to the hypothesis, Andy Senior would have suffered from polio as a child and, upon recovering from the disease, ended up moving with his family to Seattle, where he meets Emily, his future wife and mother of his two children, Andy and Molly.

However, after they are married, the father contracts Post-Polio Syndrome, a disease that can affect people infected or already recovered, and the Davises return to the bigger Andy’s hometown, where the man gives the eldest son one of the most precious items. of his life: Woody, who was kept in a box in the attic of the house next to Betty, Mr. Potato Head and Slinky, which are also given to the boy.

So, because they stayed inside the trunk for a long time, Woody, Betty, Mr. Potato Head and Slinky end up not realizing how much time has passed and, therefore, do not recognize that the Andy who opened the box is not the same as in 1957.
