Discover the true meaning behind the names of some of your favorite animation characters
When we are born, it is common for our parents to choose names that have beautiful meanings behind them — and this is not very different from animations. Some of your favorite characters also have names that carry some rather curious, or even funny, meanings.
Thinking about it, Recreio separated a special list with the meaning of the names of 5 characters that you need to know. Check out!
1. Gru
In the “Despicable Me” franchise, Gru tries to be the greatest villain in the world, having an appearance of evil, but when he is next to his daughters, he ends up revealing a much cuter and more affectionate personality. However, the meaning of his name has no connection with these characteristics, since, in Italian, “Gru” means “crane”.
2. Jerry

The beloved mouse Jerry, from “Tom and Jerry”, has a name that has several different meanings. During the 19th century, the word “jerry” was used in English to refer to a chamber pot. Years later, it came to be used as a slang word meaning “to understand”.
3. Moana

Unlike the other characters already mentioned in the list, Moana has the name that is most related to her plot. That’s because in Polynesia and Hawaii, regions used as inspiration in the film, her name means “ocean”.
4. Pumbaa

Pumbaa is one of the most striking characters in “The Lion King”. The wild boar, known for being extremely outgoing and playful, actually has a very different name from his personality. According to the ScreenRant portal, Pumbaa means “fool, ignorant and stupid”.
5. Simba

In the Swahili language, Simba means “lion”. However, the word can also mean “bloodthirsty, cruel or brave person”. Despite being a lion, Simba is a very docile and loving character, being extremely difficult to imagine him as someone cruel or without any mercy.
