“life is too short to deal with people like that”

Statement comes after comments from Jenna Ortega about the backstage of ‘Wandinha’

The producer of ‘Wandinha’, Steven DeKnightused their social networks to comment on the recent declarations of Jenna Ortega about the backstories of the series, revealing that “These kinds of statements are beyond pettiness and toxicity”.

This happens because, on March 6, the actress gave an interview to the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepar where she criticized the production’s script choices, and stated that she disagreed with the work’s creatives.

I don’t think I’ve ever needed to set foot on set the way I did with Wandinha, because it’s so easy to fall into that category, especially with this type of show,” he said. “Everything she does, everything I needed to play, I didn’t do what less sense for the character.”

Among the topics covered in the series, she mentions that Wandinha being in a love triangle made no sense. “There was a line about this dress I needed to wear to a school dance and it said, ‘Oh my God, I love this. Ugh, I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ And I said, ‘No, not at all.’

There were moments on that set where I became almost unprofessional in a way, where I started switching lines. The script supervisor thought I was doing something, and then I would have to sit down with the writers and they would say, ‘Wait, what happened to the scene?’ And I explained why I couldn’t do certain things,” concluded Ortega.

With this in mind, Steven DeKnight responded to a tweet that questioned whether statements by ortega were just “A misunderstanding”, and that there was a power dynamic where everyone could contribute to the development of the series, where he stated that Jenna “clearly shit on the showrunners/writers publicly”.

She’s young, so maybe she doesn’t know better (but she should). She also has to ask herself how she would feel if the showrunners did an interview and talked about how difficult she was and refused to present the material,” DeKnight continued. “That kind of statement is beyond pettiness and toxicity. I love her work, but life is too short to deal with people like that in the marketplace.”
