The animation hated by Walt Disney that almost nobody knows

Directed and produced by Walt Disney, the animation was released in the 1930s; discover the details!

Filmmaker, screenwriter, director, voice actor, animator, philanthropist and co-founder of one of the biggest animation studios of all time, Walter Elias Disneybetter known as, walt disney (December 5, 1901 – December 15, 1966), was responsible for the production of several masterpieces, such as ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ (1937), the first animated feature film by Walt Disney Productions .

In addition to production, Walt ventured into directing, where, among the outstanding titles that were commanded and produced by waltzit is also possible to mention ‘Silly Symphonies’, a series of animated shorts that featured 75 drawings released between 1929 and 1939, and earned the businessman the Oscar for best animated short film seven times non-consecutively.

But despite being a great success, one of the animations of ‘Silly Symphonies’ is known not for its merits, but for the rumors that it is one of the cartoons that walt disney regrets having idealized. Were you curious to find out? RECREIO tells you next!

Does everyone make mistakes?

The ‘Silly Symphonies’ series features adaptations of classic fairy tales and fables, so it was no different in 1935 when waltz released ‘The Golden Touch’ (‘O Toque de Ouro’ or ‘O Toque Dourado’, in free translation into Portuguese), a short film that is about ten minutes long and features the Greek legend of King Midas.

The story that was produced and directed by waltz, follows the greedy man getting one of his greatest wishes granted: the power to turn anything he touches into gold. However, the gift soon turns out to actually be a curse, as anything he tries to eat or drink also turns to gold, which soon starves him to death.

However, to get to the screens, waltz changed some characteristics of the original myth, since it altered the time of events to place the narrative in the medieval period, in addition to having removed one of the characters of great impact in the plot: the daughter of Midas.

The choices, combined with the quality of the animation, made the short film receive harsh reviews from critics, including being considered one of the worst productions of waltz in that period, as mentioned by Screenrant.

Even so, ‘The Golden Touch’ seems to have displeased not only the critics, but also the own waltzwho, in a text intended to respond to some constructive criticisms of the film, implies that he was not happy with the result either, by revealing his expectations about the animation and referring to the choices made during creation as “mistakes”.

I know the image is not good, but it is impossible to make radical changes to it at this time. It’s a shame we lost MIDAS, as I felt it had the potential to be a really good cartoon. The best thing we can do at this stage is to profit from our mistakes in creating future pictures”, said Walt in a letter revealed in the book ‘The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney’.

Currently, the animation has an average of 6.8 on IMDB, as well as Google reveals that 77% of its users said they liked this film. You can draw your own conclusions below. Watch!
