‘Wicked’ returns to Brazil after seven years with premiere scheduled for this Thursday, 9
After seven years, ‘Wicked – The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz’ is back in Brazil with innovative elements and special effects, and even, never seen before in the country. The show, which is an adaptation of the Broadway musical that has been running for over 20 years in New York, has previously been to Brazil, in 2016.
The production, which has the plot around Elphaba and Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North, respectively, makes reference to the classic film ‘The Wizard of Oz’, from 1939, and even includes special effects that were conceived by Skylar Foxwho is the illusionist consultant for the play ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’.
As much as the show has the Skylar Fox to make some of the magic happen, other factors, and even actors, are involved in making the whole overarching structure work. One of the many names behind all this magic is the illusionist and actor of ‘Wicked’ Alicio Zimmermann. He, in addition to acting in the show, is one of those responsible for maintaining the effects that add a remarkable touch to the production.
Zimmermannexplained a little about the special effects that the public will witness during the show, in the press conference for the musical that took place last Tuesday, the 7th: “Everything came from abroad, and we managed to adapt some things here in Brazil to work in the best way possible, so there are transformations, levitations, color changes, explosions, fire.”
Also, during the interview, alicio commented on what audiences can expect from this magic touch of the 2023 version of ‘Wicked’:
You [o público] you can expect something very interesting, unprecedented visual effects in the history of Brazil, in the history of musical theater, things that were created for Wicked, scenes that previously we had the imagery of it, but now we are going to see it happening […] A lot of things come that we managed to adapt.”
Furthermore, during the alicio commented on his favorite effect: “I really like Elphaba’s language of power. Every time Elphaba does something magic-related, magic happens in her hands.” The actor also spoke, in his conception, which is the most unprecedented special effect here in Brazil: “We have a transformation that happens live on stage that in the original Wicked it was only mentioned, and that happens here in front of the public. ”
alicio, who in addition to taking care of this technical part of the show, is also part of the play’s “Ensemble”, which is the choir, where he has several entries during production with various characters. For him, the public can expect “A Wicked like never seen before.”
