IN VIDEO – While visiting Essex, East England, the royal couple were heckled by a group of anti-monarchists who plan to stage further hostile demonstrations against the monarch in the run up to her coronation on May 6.
King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla faced a very mixed reception during their official visit to Colchester on Tuesday 8 March. The royal couple jetted off to this east English city to celebrateEssex Year of Readinga campaign to encourage reading among children, which is dear to the Queen’s husband, who also supports a number of literacy programs in the country.
Crowds of well-wishers gathered to catch a glimpse of the 74-year-old monarch and his 75-year-old wife. Journalists on the scene noticed cheers from the crowd when they arrived at Colchester Library, but they were drowned out by the booing and jeers of activists from the anti-monarchy group Republic.
These protesters waved placards reading “Not my king” and shouted at the monarch to “come and speak”. [ses] critics”. Organization official Graham Smith said DailyMail: that they were all intent on spreading the message that it was acceptable to protest against the monarchy; Instead of a useless and costly coronation, we need a serious public debate,” he said.
Among the hostile protesters was theorist Piers Corbyn. Described by the British media as a “conspirator”, the brother of former Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is notorious for his climate-averse and anti-vax theses during the 2020 austerity measures.
The royal couple ignored the gossip they received and then entered the library. Once safely inside and away from the protesters, Charles and Camilla had tea with the volunteers. This is not the first time that the King of England is involved with this anti-monarchist group. Last month he faced similar protests when he visited Milton Keynes. Charles also got an egg on his head while on tour in York in December. The republic has promised a series of protests ahead of and during her coronation on May 6 at Westminster Abbey in London.
