5 Facts That Don’t Make Sense About ‘Mulan’

Find out which points of ‘Mulan’ cause doubts among fans of Disney classics

Adapted from the Chinese folk poem ‘The Ballad of Hua Mulan’, Disney’s animated film ‘Mulan’ is one of the studio’s classic princess stories. The film, which hit theaters in June 1998, follows a young girl from China who decides to disguise herself as a man to take over her father’s post in the army, as he was very ill and could not bear another war under his belt. .

As a result of her decision, Mulan has the company of her dragon Mushu to not only hide her true identity, but also to discover ways to help combat the invasion of the Huns – challenges that she manages to meet, even causing the girl obtained the title of heroine in her native country.

But, have you ever stopped to think that there are facts in the movie that just don’t make sense? RECREIO separated a list of 5 of these illogical moments below. Check out!

1. Zhou not joining the army

Zhou is of advanced age, and he has a limp due to a previous war wound. With that in mind, even with his summons, he would be released from the exercise of his role as a soldier, as with other men who were unable to follow the training, meaning that Mulan’s decision may have been taken hastily.

2. Ping exist

Upon entering the army, Mulan introduces herself as Ping, however, the name’s link to Zhou was never explained. In fact, the name is even raised as a suspect by Shang’s adviser, Chi-Fu, who says he has no idea that Zhou had a son, yet he lets the disguised girl proceed anyway.

Was the way of documenting the existence of heirs and children different back then? We will never know!

3. Mulan not being discovered

From the moment Mulan decides to risk serving in the army in her father’s place, the girl could have easily been discovered. That’s because, her neighborhood would certainly notice her absence, after all, the girl had problems fitting in, causing her to attract the attention of those around her for her behavior.

In addition, there are situations during training for war that suggested that Mulan was hiding a secret, one that the soldiers could easily suspect, or even easily discover, such as the fact that she had set up her tent far from everyone else, always get away to shower alone, among other things.

4. Mushu was never seen by the warriors

The red dragon was always close by, including, in several situations, he was in the same environment as the warriors talking covertly with Mulan, but no man even saw or heard him.

5. Survival of the Huns

In the scene where mulan ends up creating an avalanche that tramples hundreds of Huns, many believe that the opponents would have been eliminated, but that is not what happens. Some men are not even hurt, returning in the next scene that shows that some time has passed, since it is already dusk.

Thus, the survival of the Huns makes no sense, or could be considered a case outside the curve, since the chances of getting out alive from an avalanche get smaller and smaller as the hours pass.
