A classic from the 2000s, ‘The Princess Diaries’ has some scenes that don’t make much sense. Check out!
The “Princess Diaries” film franchise, starring Anne HathawayIt is Julie Andrews, is one of the great Disney classics of the 2000s, which is still successful today. The plot tells the story of Mia Thermópolis, a teenager from San Francisco who discovers that she is a princess and heir to the throne of a small kingdom called Genovia.
However, the plot adapted from the books written by Meg Cabot it has some events that, if you stop to think about it, don’t make much sense.
Check out this list of 4 moments from the “Princess Diaries” movies that don’t make sense!
1. Mia doesn’t know her own family’s past
Right at the beginning of the first film, we discover that Mia had no idea that her father was a prince, and her grandparents were the kings of Genovia — in addition to not even imagining that she would be at the top of the line of succession in this kingdom. But how is this possible?
The production suggests that the relationship between Mia and her grandmother, Queen Clarisse, was quite distant, but that, from time to time, they exchanged phone calls. Her father, Prince Philip, was also always in touch even after the separation with Helen, the girl’s mother.
Furthermore, as he was first in line to Genovia’s succession, Philipe’s death should have been reported in different corners of the world — especially in the United States, where his daughter, heir to the throne, lived. But, apparently, that didn’t happen. Why?
2. Philippe’s Funeral
“The Princess Diaries” begins by explaining that Mia lost her father not long ago. Because he was a prince, her funeral must have featured a major state event, just like we see in traditional European monarchies, but the fact is not explained in the film. How did this event happen? Did the media not report her wake? And Mia was there?
3. Ignorance of the media
During the film released in 2001, it is implied that the American media had no idea who Mia was until the revelation made by Paolo after her visual transformation. But how was that possible when she was one of the leading heirs to the kingdom of Genovia?

Mia was the direct descendant to the throne right after her father, and as such, her life in San Francisco was bound to become a top tabloid subject — something that happened after the reveal. But why didn’t they know about it before? And did the newspapers even report the prince’s death?
4. The decision on the marriage of future queens
During the second film, Mia is forced to marry to become queen, due to a country law. Despite trying to talk to parliament, Queen Clarisse is unable to change this rule and must find a groom for her granddaughter in just a few weeks.

However, on the wedding day, Mia and her fiance, Andrew, agree that they do not want to get married, and the princess ends up managing to convince parliament to change this law, still inside the church and alongside her guests. Why did they accept changing their minds so easily? And why didn’t they decide to change the law even before organizing the event?
