‘OH!’ John Oliver reveals the “most bizarre story” about Ron DeSantis

John Oliver devoted most of Sunday’s “Last Week Tonight” to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Or, as Donald Trump is said to have played calling him, “Meatball Ron.”

“I hate to say it, but Trump still gets it,” Oliver said when he heard the nickname. “It’s perfectly stupid and childish and offensive in a way that’s really hard to put into words.”

Oliver analyzed DeSantis’ relentless attacks on the LGBTQ community, the media, voters and more. But the strangest object he discovered involved what Oliver called “the weirdest dating tactic I’ve ever heard.”

DeSantis, according to a former classmate quoted by the Financial Times, used to prefer dates to Thai food, but pronounced “thigh food” to see if his date would correct him.

If he had, the article claimed, he would have made an excuse and left because he “didn’t want a girl to correct him.”

“If true: WOW!” Oliver said. “Imagine being at that meeting.”

Oliver released a detailed description of how that date might play out, to the point where DeSantis took off “leaving you both with the check and the biggest first date disaster story ever.”

Ultimately, Oliver summed up DeSantis as “an autocrat and petty bully, a man who doesn’t care to hear dissent, questions, or even the correct pronunciation of Thai food.”

And also: “just a pie.”
