The video game Dead by Daylight is coming to the big screen.
Production studios Blumhouse (“Get Out”) and Atomic Monster Productions (“M3GAN”), founded by horror guru James Wan (“The Conjuring” and “Insidious”), join forces with video game studio Behavior Interactive to develop a film adaptation of the film. the popular survival horror game, Noted variety.
In the high-stakes multiplayer game, one player takes on the role of an assassin who stalks, slashes and fights to slaughter a team of four survivors before they can work together to escape death.
The game also features seven exclusive monsters including Trapper, Hillbilly and Hag. In recent years, horror icons like The ghost girl AND Freddy Krueger they were also added to the game via add-on packs for purchase.
No writer or director for the film has yet been named, but fans of the slasher simulator quickly flooded Twitter with excitement over the release.
Released in 2016, Dead by Daylight has since amassed 50 million players. Last March, the game’s official Twitter account celebrated this impressive milestone on social media.
“Thank you to all our players,” the Canadian game studio said on Twitter. “We hope to see you in the fog!”
Speaking about the upcoming project, Wan said in a statement provided by variety: “In ‘Dead by Daylight’, the Behavior team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredibly atmospheric environment and terrifying villains, perfect for a terrifying film adaptation.”
He added: “We’re big fans of Atomic Monster’s gameplay and are excited to partner with Blumhouse to bring this terrifyingly visceral world to the big screen.”
The ‘Dead by Daylight’ feature announcement comes days after Blumhouse announced plans to make it launches a video game division dedicated to creating horror-themed projects for consoles, computers and mobile devices.
