The Discarded ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Scene You Might Not Know

One of the classic ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ sequels could be totally different

Becoming Disney’s first animated feature film, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ hit theaters in 1937 to present the story of the young girl who, after being considered the most beautiful in her kingdom by the magic mirror, became hunted by his stepmother, the Evil Queen, as she was willing to do anything to remain the most beautiful woman who ever existed.

The narrative that shows Snow White going to live in the forest with seven dwarfs until she is poisoned by the antagonist, ends with a happy ending, as the curse is broken when the girl receives a kiss from Prince Charming, — this one that is described as a dream by adorable princess during the musical number of ‘My Prince Will Arrive’. Remember the moment!

However, what some may not know is that the scene could be totally different if the original version of the sequence that shows Snow White surrounded by the curious dwarfs had not been discarded, as revealed in the work ‘White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Art and Creation of Walt Disney’s Classic Animated Film’ (via Screenrant).

What happened in the discarded scene?

That’s because, in the first draft of the scene that comes packaged by ‘O Meu Príncipe Vai Chegar’, the moment would actually be presented as a dream of Snow White, where she fantasized in her mind a dance with Prince Charming. However, the sequence was not even animated, as for “aesthetic and practical reasons” the Walt Disney team disney Animation Studios scrapped the scene.

It is worth remembering that for the animation to reach theaters, the work of about 300 artists was necessary, who helped to develop the story for just over four years. In addition, Disney’s riskiest project only became real due to the investment of 1.5 million dollars, an amount that even made waltz had to mortgage his own home.

With that, a detailed scene like this could lead to more production time and more money invested, something that Disney did not have at that time, since, as mentioned by Neal Gabler in the documentary ‘Disney’s First Feature Film: The Making of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, the film was finished two and a half weeks before its big screen release.

Still, the simplistic choice provided a great scene that is remembered by many to this day. In addition, the film as a whole was a great event, since it opened the Disney Princess franchise, presented the first holder of the crown of the House of Mickey, received an honorary Oscar and became the symbol of the beginning of the so-called “Age of Ouro”, a period that marks the first great achievements of the studio, such as the creation of the Fantasound System, a sound reproduction system developed by engineers from Disney and RCA studios.
