Are DreamWorks movies connected?

Understand the DreamWorks Theory that connects the events of the studio’s main animations

After the arrival of ‘Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order’ (2022), DreamWorks counts in its vast catalog of animations 43 films, where most of them present unique stories that do not connect to each other — at least that’s what most people can believe it when following the studio’s releases over the years.

However, far beyond the sequels, the feature films of the company that was founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg It is David Geffen in 1994 and gained its animation division four years later, can be part of a single timeline, where all films form a large and unique story.

This is the theory created by Youtuber Thiago Augusto da Costa Ferreirabetter known by the name Imaginago, and presented to the public in January 2019 through a video, where he analyzed the films released by the studio, and, like the American journalist Jon Negroni who created the Pixar theory, also came to the conclusion that the events of most animations are connected.

To list the facts, Imaginago removed the studio’s biblical films, such as ‘Joseph: The King of Dreams’ and ‘The Prince of Egypt’, as they belong to a single universe, in addition to having left some other studio titles out, since there are no elements that can enrich the idea that everything happens in the same timeline.

Furthermore, he explained that the universe of dreamworks has magic as a natural part of its existence, and that, if there is an origin for magic, it will not be explained in theory, as there are no indications in any of the films released so far as to why there are magical elements in the stories.

The theory

It all starts with ‘Os Croods’ (2013), where according to the thesis raised, in addition to humans developing intelligence, animals are also going through the same process. Yet in this film there is also a general fear among prehistoric families for the creatures of that world.

This fear has been perpetuated over the years and has made humanity begin to look for ways to be under control of the situation, resulting in the capture of these animals, as evidenced by ‘Shrek’ (2001), the second film of the theory, which shows that being a magical creature or animal is a crime.

After that, ‘How to train your Dragon’ (2010) appears, which shows that magical beings are still persecuted and continues like this until Hiccup discovers that these creatures are not a threat, causing people to start making peace with each other. only with the dragons, but also with the other animals that circulated there.

However, Imaginago argues that although magical beings are no longer hunting objects, they have not had opportunities to be included in society, which has made them increasingly reclusive until they become extinct, making the last appearances of beings who possess magic appeared in just two more films, the first being ‘Sinbad – The Legend of the Seven Seas’ (2013) with the presence of Erís, the Goddess of chaos, who left the earth after having her plans ruined , but with the promise of taking problems to other corners of the universe.

Soon after, the YouTuber’s timeline includes ‘The Origin of the Guardians’ (2012), a film that appears to defend the idea that the disappearance of magical beings made them become just legends for human beings, but that not all they died, they just no longer live in places that would put them under the gaze of people on earth.

The events from then on will have the help of Eris, since the divinity used her powers to destroy other planets, making the survivors look for a new shelter: Earth, generating the story of ‘Megamente’ (2010), where the The blue being’s parents sent him to Earth.

The Megamind race had an energy force called Quantonium, which after having its home destroyed, ended up becoming debris, one of which formed the asteroid that fell to Earth and turned Susan Murphy into a giant in ‘Monsters Vs. Aliens’ (2009).

It is worth remembering that the arrival of extraterrestrials caused conflicts that can be seen in the two previous films and also in ‘Each one in his House’ (2015), where the aliens were hidden for many years to avoid wars and fights, a film that, like the others, show that coexistence between beings from different planets has become possible, even though over the years, the earth’s climate cannot allow them to remain alive for a long time, causing them to go extinct.

With the plan frustrated, Eris plans her new attack seen in ‘FormiguinhaZ’ (1998) where she implants the idea that animals can be free and deserve to be, in addition to which, humans are a threat, making Z the first to be and start the ‘animal revolution’ that can be seen expanding in ‘Madagascar’ (2005) and ‘A Fuga das Galinhas’ (200), and fixed once and for all in ‘Os Sem Floresta’ (2006), animation in that animals go against human rules to gain their freedom.

In ‘Turbo’ (2013), the animals have already gone through all of this, and are now starting to integrate human practices into their daily lives, as is the case with sports. In addition, they soon begin to learn to communicate with their enemies at the time, as can be seen in ‘Bee Movie – The Story of a Bee’ (2007), a film that also shows the establishment of a peace treaty between people and bugs.

From then on, animals gain the same rights as humans and can now circulate peacefully as shown in ‘The Adventures of Peabody & Sherman’ (2014), even though there was prejudice between the species, — something that may have generated extremism seen in ‘The Penguins of Madagascar’ (2014), where the animals wanted to annihilate human existence, a desire that over time ends up being fulfilled, causing the earth to be occupied only by animals.

Thus comes ‘Kung Fu Panda’ (2008), a film in which animals dominate the earth and have their own cultures, even leaving technology aside in order to preserve the environment. On the other hand, ‘O Espanta Tubarões’ (2004) shows that marine beings followed the opposite path, using and improving various technologies, all without knowing that they are just parts of Eris’s terrible plan.
