Aubrey Plaza and Jenna Ortega they seem to compliment each other like a headless doll and a play school guillotine.
But the two successful Latino actors who derive joy from all things macabre didn’t seem to understand why SAG Awards 2023 would join them in presenting the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries.
As the women stood awkwardly next to each other behind a podium Sunday night, Plaza figuratively grabbed an ice pick and broke their icy tension.
“I don’t know why they put us together,” he said flatly.
“Yes,” said Ortega without any inflection in his voice. “I know. We have nothing in common.”
“We should find the people who did this,” Plaza suggested.
“And curse their families and see how…” Ortega began before Plaza reached him and they said together. “… misfortune follows their bloodline for the next seven generations.”
“OK, now I see,” Plaza finally admitted as the two realized they were basically the same person.
Plaza has long been beloved for her quirky persona, which stemmed from her starring role as the macabre April Ludgate on “Parks and Recreations” (which, oddly enough, was a character inspired by Plaza. in real life). And she delighted her fans with her scary stories since then behind the scenes.
Ortega, who rose to fame in creepy projects like “You” and the “Scream” franchise, currently stars as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series “Wednesday.” Like Plaza, he also has a fervor for all things spooky, telling Jimmy Fallon last year: “I don’t know what it’s like to have blood splashed on your face… but it really is so therapeutic.”
So it only makes sense that after the two appeared together on Sunday night, that’s what a reporter suggested Plaza that she and Ortega are doing a comedy with their cop friendsto which she replied with:
“I know, I’m down. We will simply kill them all with our eyes.”
Hey, well, we’d watch “666 Jump Street” or “Women in Black” any day.
