Meet some Disney movies that were based on books and maybe you didn’t know
For 100 years, Disney has been attracting a huge legion of passionate fans for its productions, responsible for uniting entire families in all parts of the world.
However, unlike what many people imagine, some of these stories did not come directly from the creative minds of producers and screenwriters, but instead became adaptations of literary works released years before their debut in cinema.
With that in mind, Recreio has put together an unmissable list of 5 films from disney that were inspired by books!
1. Pinocchio
The story about the most beloved wooden puppet in the world was inspired by the book “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, released in 1881, and written by Carlo Clodi. At that time, the plot was published in series format, becoming one of the first weekly magazines in Italy dedicated to children. The Disney film, however, only hit theaters in 1940.
2. 101 Dalmatians

“101 Dalmatians” is one of Disney’s biggest hits, receiving both animated and live-action versions. The plot about the dalmatians Pongo and Prenda, and their owners Roger and Anita, was inspired by a book released in 1956 by the writer Dodie Smith. The original story, however, contained a few different scenes, which were adapted to be more Disney-like.
3. The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Victor Hugoone of the greatest writers in France, is the author responsible for writing the book “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, published in 1831. However, unlike the animation released in 1996, the book does not focus on Quasimodo, but on the very Notre Dame cathedral.
4. Tarzan

The original story of “Tarzan”, animation released by Disney in 1999, was published through 24 books, between the years 1912 and 1966, being written by the American author Edgar Rice.
5. The Chronicles of Narnia

In 2005, 2008 and 2010, Disney released the films of the “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise, inspired by the books of the British author CS Lewis, which had its first publication in 1950, and which tells the story of the magical land of Narnia. However, unlike what many think, the studio has not adapted all the books in the franchise, presenting only part of the plot present in the work.
