During an interview with Variety, Sam Claflin, interpreter of Finnick in the films of ‘Hunger Games’, reflected on his passage in the plot. At the time, as reported by the Omelete website, the actor said he agrees with the criticism received from fans regarding the end of his character.
Thus, Sam said during the interview: “I think Finnick deserved better, but he did the right thing. He is a good guy, sacrificing himself for the cause”, recalling the negative messages he received when he was cast in the plot.
Yet, Claflin He went on to say, “Fans came to tell me that this or that actor should have been cast over me, and all I could think was, ‘I’m going to prove them wrong!'”
In addition, the actor also commented that, these days, he cannot watch productions without thinking about what he would do differently: “I was shitting myself at the time – it was the first shirtless scene of my life, you know? My God! Also, I didn’t have an accent coach for The Hunger Games, and now I realize I really needed one. When I hear myself speaking in those movies, I think, ‘Oh my God, that’s terrible.'”
He went on to say, “Luckily, I wasn’t playing one of the leads. It wasn’t Katniss, or Peeta, or Gale. Those guys were there from the beginning, and the pressure on them was immense,” he continued. “I think these days I feel a little more confident in my abilities, especially for a character like Finnick, where showing charisma is so important.”
The ‘Hunger Games’ films were released between 2012 and 2015, and this year a prelude to the saga will be released.
