The choreographer signs his first feature film, a modern reinterpretation of Georges Bizet’s classic. Carmen. A promising film in its aesthetics, which clearly puts dance in the spotlight.

The dancer and choreographer, former dance director of the Paris Opera, tries his hand at directing with his first feature film, a comedy opera on the big screen. Carmen, of which the first trailer was released this Wednesday, February 22. Natalie Portman’s husband thus offers a modern reinterpretation of Georges Bizet’s classic, adapted from a story by Prosper Mériet, in the form of a musical film.

They will find refuge in the heart of the club Sombra Poderosa, run by the young woman’s aunt, played by Rossi de Palma, where music and dancing are the law.
Dances and fights
These first images show a lot of choreography, but also fight scenes, and hint at a film where aesthetics and anger, dance and violence are in dialogue. In the casting we see the Mexican Melissa Barrera in the title role, the Irishman Paul Mescal as Aidan, as well as Rossi de Palma, therefore Elsa Pataky and Tracy Curry, the rapper better known as The DOC.
