In the mid-90s, three big names in the film industry got together to create their own studio: the filmmaker Steven Spielbergthe tycoon David Geffenand the animator and director Jeffrey Katzenberg.
A dreamworks Studios emerged in 1994, however, its animation-only division entered the industry four years later, in 1998, with the inauguration of DreamWorks Animation. In the same year, the studio released its first two films, “AntZ” and “The Prince of Egypt”.
“AntZ” made its theatrical debut in the United States on October 2, and tells the story of Z, a worker ant who falls in love with the princess of the colony and must save his community after the evil General Jaw threatens to exterminate the entire working population. .
The film grossed around 171.8 million dollars at the worldwide box office, in addition to receiving numerous accolades from the public and specialized critics, reaching a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 72 out of 100 on Metacritic.
Meanwhile, “The Prince of Egypt” hit theaters on Dec. 18, featuring an adaptation of the Book of Exodus, following the story of Moses, a Jew who was adopted and raised as a prince of Egypt, but who, upon discovering his , decides to leave the palace and save the Hebrews from slavery.

Just like “FormiguinhaZ”, “O Príncipe do Egypt” also became a great success. The film grossed approximately $2018 million at the worldwide box office, earning it the title of the most successful non-Disney feature at the time.
The Success of DreamWorks
However, despite the fact that the first two productions had a great result, DreamWorks’ big breakthrough only happened three years later, in 2001, with the release of “Shrek”, a film that earned the studio its first Oscar.

The success of the story about the charismatic swamp ogre was so great that the plot became a franchise, receiving six sequels, numerous short films, spin-offs, in addition to even becoming a video game.
Since then, DreamWorks has become a hit machine, launching franchises responsible for raking in millions of dollars at the worldwide box office, racking up multiple awards, and winning the hearts of entire families internationally. Among his most famous productions, we can mention “Madagascar”, “Chicken Run”, “How to Train Your Dragon”, “Kung Fu Panda”, “The Boss Baby”, “Megamind”, “Shark Tale”, “Bee Movie”, and much more.
His most recent release took place in January of this year, with “Puss in Boots 2”, Puss in Boots 2 – The Last Order”, sequel to the spin-off inspired by the cat featured in the “Shrek” franchise. The film became DreamWorks’ highest-grossing film in Brazil, grossing around R$70.4 million in ticket sales, according to data reported by the Omelete portal.
