Adapted from the novel Fleishman is in trouble This 8-episode series by American journalist and author Taffy Brodesser-Akner humorously tells about the breakup of a modern couple. It will be available from February 22 on the Disney+ platform.
When? Marriage history meets Woody Allen and How I Met Your Mother. To make a serial adaptation of his novel Fleishman is in trouble (Anatomy of Divorce, in French), American journalist and author Taffy Brodesser-Akner bet on mixing genres. The story follows Toby Fleischman (Jesse Eisenberg), a newly divorced New Yorker who is enjoying his new single life until the day his ex-wife Rachel (Claire Danes) leaves him with their two children and disappears without explanation. Not knowing how to juggle full-time fatherhood, his job at the hospital, and his many app conquests, the young father reconnects with two of his childhood friends, Libby and Seth (Lizzy Caplan and Adam Brody). With their help, he will try to see more clearly, passing the thread of his romantic relationship and, perhaps, find out what happened to his ex-wife.
Social comedy
Drawing on the worlds of Woody Allen and Darren Starr as well, Taffy Brodesser-Ackner manages to tell the disintegration of a modern couple against the backdrop of an extremely eloquent social comedy. As in her novel, the author illuminates Rachel’s personality to the viewer by voicing Libby’s character, thus signing a deeply feminist series. Fun fact. the cast lets the characters down How I Met Your Motherin: Homeland and: Newport Beach To meet
