Kang the Conqueror is introduced in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ as the great villain of phase 5 of the MCU
[CUIDADO! SPOILERS DE ‘HOMEM-FORMIGA E A VESPA: QUANTUMANIA]
In one of the scenes of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) demonstrates a portion of its power by asking Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) if he has killed him before, that’s because, the villain said that he has faced the Avengers before and stated that “They all die after a while”.
In addition, he questioned whether Ant-Man was “The One with the Hammer”, implying that Kang and Thor have faced each other before, and that the God of Thunder ended up losing the battle. “But, did that really happen?”
a mighty duel
In Avengers #142 (1963), Marvel introduced the popular clash between the villain and Thor in comics. The meeting between the two begins by chance when Hawkeye is lost in time and ends up in the Old West, more precisely in the year 1873, so the son of Odin, the Serpent of the Moon and Immortus travel to find him and take it back.
However, it is revealed that the archery-wielding hero was trying to go to the 12th century when he ended up being attacked by Kang the Conqueror and ended up imprisoned. Still, he discovered that Tombstone City had been invaded by Kang, who had set up his own citadel in the middle of the city.
In order to stop Kang’s rise, they arrest a group of train robbers hired by the antagonist with the help of cowboy heroes and gunslingers like Two-Gun Kid, Ghost Rider, Kid Colt and others.
Already in the sequence presented in Avengers # 143 (1963), the trio continues the plan, this time, with the intention of invading Kang’s citadel. For this, they again count on the support of Two-Gun Kid, and enter the place in disguise.
Here, Thor appears using the famous Donald Blake disguise, surprising Kang when he enters the control room. At that moment, the physical confrontation between the two happens, even causing Kang to overload his armor to try to defeat the Thunder God, but he ends up being defeated.
In the MCU
There are no indications that there will be a direct confrontation between the son of Odin and Kang the Conqueror on the big screen. However, in an interview with the Jovem Nerd portal, the actor who gives life to the antagonist in the MCU, Jonathan Majorsrevealed that he wants to face Thor alone in a future battle.
I would have to start with Thor. Yeah, himself. May come. I’m not scared of Chris Hemsworth,” Majors said.
In addition, it is possible that both characters will battle, since Kang will be the main villain of Marvel in phase five and even, there are already two plots involving him and the Avengers planned to hit theaters in 2025: ‘Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Secret Wars ‘, where the team of heroes must stop Kang’s rise on Earth.
While that doesn’t happen, fans of both characters can check out two of the most recent releases from the House of Ideas in theaters that feature the powerful villain and the Norse God, that’s because, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ is in poster and ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ is now available in the Disney+ catalogue.
