The plot of “Asu mare! Los amigos, unrelated to the life of protagonist Carlos Alcantara, who this time makes his directorial debut, focuses on the financial problems of the former Chacotero troupe that surrounded the Cachin. now turned into men with suffocating debts, hoarding jobs and sentimental failures.
There are almost two hours of footage in which “Poroto” (Emilram Cossio), ‘Cooley’ (Andres Salas), ‘Lettuce’ (Franco Cabrera) and “El Chato” (Miguel Vergara) will know what embargoes, layoffs, racism, parental separation and political corruption mean. However, none of these questions are problematized because this film seems to have only one purpose: to tell jokes.
In fact, on rare occasions he succeeds. For example, when his characters forgo predictable jokes and indulge in improvised wordplay and charm farce. But in this effort to elicit laughter from the public, the argument is lost, and the plots that were supposed to give thickness and a certain background to each member of the gang are almost not blurred.

In his attempt to fill in the gaps in the limited script, some of the performances in “Asu mare! Friendsseem heavy (like those of Cossio and Fiorella Luna), but insufficient. How to survive, in the end, to excess product placement and some prim dialogue, unable to give life to at least a convincing novel?
Of course, the history of overcoming is inevitable. This message indicates success spin offwhich is still connected to the films that preceded it, thanks to a universe that the Peruvian viewer already feels familiar with: there is the neighborhood of Mirones, childhood as a place for incipient friendship (fireproof) and a sense of humor commonly referred to as “Creole”.
It also shares an aesthetic with the original trilogy, which combines a commercial video clip and a video clip made for TikTok or coil from instagram. IN “Asu Mare! Friends”The vintage coloring of the 70s is back, drone shots from above, slow motion scenes where nostalgia or falling in love is emphasized. Visual packaging without opacity, clean and flat.
It is by all these formulas that the film produces a continuous sensation deja vu. In any case, Alcantara’s debut deserves to be more perfect than “Asu Mare 3”.
The premiere of “Asu Mare, friends” took place on February 9.
