It’s not often that Stephen Colbert praises Donald Trump, but he couldn’t help but offer up some gushing admiration for the former president’s new nickname for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Trump privately calls DeSantis, a potential 2024 campaign rival, “Meatball Ron.”
“Ooooh, I don’t like it as much as I like this,” Colbert confessed. “It’s so stupid and accurate.”
He also noted that “Meatball Ron” could easily fit into Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” and led his audience on the “Late Show” in a song dedicated to the Florida governor.
Then Colbert broke some alarming news: Trump is also considering calling DeSantis “Lock Up Ron.”
“No, you fool!” Colbert recommended him. “Cut it while you’re at it – you’ll never do better than the crystallized genius that is ‘Meatball Ron’.”
Finally, Colbert led the audience in another line from the song “Meatball Ron” in his Tuesday night monologue:
