“Daily Show” guest host Sarah Silverman briefly worked on what has become the Republican Party’s signature issue in recent years: resurgence.
The right has blamed the resurgence on military recruiting problems, but Silverman found a new survey of teenagers and young adults saying the main reason they don’t enlist is because they don’t want to die.
“Only Republicans would be crazy to blame the lack of military recruiting on the revival when the number one reason [is] that people really like not dying,” he said. “These Gen Z kids are saying, why would I be shot in the Middle East when I can be shot in the comfort of middle school?”
Comedian/actor Silverman added sarcastically: “Just kidding. This doesn’t happen in America.”
He also revealed why it’s not a problem in the military in his Tuesday night monologue:

Republicans have insulted the US military on this. Last month, Donald Trump said that “we have an awakened army that cannot fight or defeat,” while Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) complained last year that the military is “more interested in pronouns than winning wars.”
However, in the new survey, only 5% cited “awakening” as a reason for not enlisting. Much bigger reasons include fear of injury or death, PTSD, leaving friends and family, and putting life on hold.
