British director Hugh Hudson, film director Chariots of Fire (Chariots of Fire1981), died yesterday, Friday, at the age of 86 after a “short illness,” his family said in a media statement.
Hugh Hudsonauthor of the four-winning film OscarHe died at Charing Cross Hospital in London, the city of his birth, in 1936.
Actor Nigel Haversone of the main characters Chariots of Firedeclared himself “devastated” by the death of the director, who was married and had a son.
Success Chariots of Fire
Hugh Hudson began his career as a director of documentaries and commercials for television before moving into film and becoming successful with his first feature film, which was nominated for seven Oscars and won four statuettes.
The film, written by Colin Welland and soundtrack by Vangelis, is a historical drama centered on two runners, Eric Liddell, a Scottish Christian, and Harold Abrahams, an English Jew.
A film that tells about these two athletes who are preparing for competitions in 1924 Paris Olympicsit was “one of the best experiences of my professional life,” the actor said.
“I, like many others, owe him (Hudson) a huge part of everything that happened after (the film). I will miss him very much,” Havers added.

After this success, Hudson withdrew Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, King of the Apes1984) starring Christopher Lambert, a film that received three Academy Award nominations.
After these films, the British director never managed to make films with the same effect, and he reaped resounding box office failures such as Revolution (Revolution1985), I dreamed about Africa (I dreamed of Africa2000) and Journey home (Journey home2014).
His latest feature film, Altamira (2016), dedicated to the discovery of prehistoric caves of that name in Cantabria, was filmed in Spain and shown Antonio Banderas starring. (EFE)
