Did Jessie belong to Andy’s mother?

Discover the details that make the ‘Toy Story’ theory make such sense!

Over the years, Pixar fans have acquired the habit of analyzing the gaps in the studio’s animations and connecting the dots on their own, putting together elements that form theories that not only explain information left open, but also connect all the films already released, as if they belonged to the same universe.

Among the names responsible for the Pixar Theory is the American journalist Jon Negroniwhich among the various ideas created, is responsible for developing one of the most accepted theses about Toy Story: that Jessie belonged to Andy’s mother.

To better understand the subject, it is necessary to go back to the events presented in ‘Toy Story 2’ when Jessie tells Andy her sad past.

What happened to Jessie?

The cowgirl was one of the toys of a little girl named Emily. Jessie and Emily had a good time, until the doll ended up being forgotten by the owner under the bed, where she could watch the girl grow up from the cabin and exchange her old companions for nail polishes, records and posters, showing that Emily was already past childhood.

A few years passed before Emily, now older, found Jessie. But contrary to what the cowgirl expected, her owner does not imagine great adventures with her again, because, in fact, the girl ends up taking the doll for donation after a car trip and leaving it in a box for charity left behind. next to a truck in the middle of nowhere, providing a tear-worthy sequence.

The theory

As seen in Jessie’s origin flashback, her owner, Emily, had short brown hair when she left the doll, the same length as Andy’s mother has.

However, this is just the first of the similarities, since, in the scenes shown in conjunction with the song “When She Loved Me”, we can see that Jessie’s owner had a cowboy hat just like the cowgirl’s. See the scene!

The hat does not appear being placed in the donation box next to Jessie, which could mean that the accessory used by the girl is the same one that Andy is shown putting on his head while playing with Woody, which could mean that the hat was inherited from his mother, Jessie’s true owner.

The fact that Emily’s hat has a ribbon and Andy’s doesn’t makes the theory even stronger. This is because, on the hat worn by the boy, there is a mark where the bow should be, which could be justified by the time the accessory has existed, since it is normal for some details of the garment to be lost over time.

Also, it was never revealed in any of the Toy Story movies what Andy’s mother’s name is, there is only the reveal of her last name, as she is called Mrs. Davis, as well as, Emily’s last name is not said, which, combined with the previous facts, can reveal that the names complete each other and that the two characters are actually the same person: Emily Davis.

Finally, there is one last point that can show that both are a single character and it corresponds to the year of each story. According to the car and the decoration of Emily’s room, it is possible that the story takes place in the mid-1970s and 1980s, so by now she would be old enough to be a mother.

But it’s true?

Although the franchise presents points that can strengthen the theory, the idea was denied by Peter Doctorhead of Pixar and one of the screenwriters of ‘Toy Story 2,’ in a statement to ET Online (via Screenrant). doctor said that there is a story that further deepens the origin of Jessie that should be revealed in an upcoming production of the franchise.

After Disney confirmed last Wednesday, 08, during a meeting with shareholders that the fifth film in the “Toy Story” franchise, is this revelation about the cowgirl’s past close to being presented?
