“Desperate and ugly”. Princess Diana’s private letters detail her divorce from King Charles

Many of Lady Diana’s letters have just been released, revealing her bitter split with Prince Charles. Its recipients, several friends, are auctioning them off this month A mirror January 31.

From 1995 to the end of 1996, the “Princess of Hearts” wrote letters and cards to her friends, Susie and Tarek Kassem, describing her emotional distress over the “ugly and desperate” divorce that had since pitted her against Prince Charles. These “emotionally raw and frankly shocking” letters provided by the recipients are now held by Lay’s Auctioneers. Susie and Tarek Kasem, who met Diana in August 1995, found the responsibility of this legacy too great and did not want to pass the documents on to their children and grandchildren.

Words worth over €100,000

Lay’s Auctioneers now has Lady Diana’s precious words and will sell the letters separately. In total, they are worth an estimated £90,000 (€100,909). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to charities Susie and Diana have been involved with.

Diana Spencer, in particular, explains that she relies on the manuscript for fear that her phone is being “constantly” tapped at Kensington Palace. And that the recordings of his private conversations be transferred to the royal family. Several other pieces have been released by the Cornish-based auction house. The letter, dated April 28, 1996, shows the desperation the princess felt at the time. While apologizing for canceling an outing with friends that would require too much effort, he writes: “I am going through a very difficult period, the pressure is serious and comes from all sides. Sometimes it’s too hard to keep your head up and today I’m devastated and I want this divorce over with because the potential costs are huge.” His writing is as exciting as it is revealing. as he approaches the last lines, his calligraphy deteriorates, the curves of the letters are less elegant, he tells.
